If you've been here

It was never really about the sheets.

It's the third bedding change this week. It's the lamp on at 3am and the fitted sheet fighting you at the corner. It's standing in the laundry room at 4am wondering when you last slept through the night.

And you've tried things.

You tried disposable pads. They cost money every single night, they slide the moment she turns over, and they crinkle so loudly she gets up and moves off them anyway.

You tried towels and old blankets. They soak through to the mattress in about a minute, and now you're washing towels and sheets.

You put a mattress protector on. Which protects the mattress — and leaves you stripping and remaking the entire bed anyway, because the wet is on top of it.

You tried diapers and belly bands. Some nights they work. Other nights they twist, leak at the leg, or she works them off — and now you're washing her at 2am too.

And somebody suggested the crate. Or the floor. Or the laundry room. And it would work. That's what makes it so hard to hear — it's the one thing that would actually solve this, and it's the one thing you're not willing to do.

Every one of those is a way of protecting the bed from her.

What you actually need is a bed that doesn't need protecting.

How it works

Stop protecting the bed. Make the layer be the bed.

“It isn't a pad you slide under the dog. The waterproof layer is her side of the bed — stacked two deep, so when she leaks at 3am you peel one layer off and the dry bed underneath is already made.”

That's why BESIDE ships as two layers and not one. One layer is a bed protector — you're still stripping and remaking in the dark. Two layers means the made bed is already underneath.

The 3am job stops being fifteen minutes and becomes ninety seconds. Peel, drop it in the hamper, go back to sleep.

Why it works

Three things have to be true. Most pads get one.

Big enough that she stays on it

Big enough that she stays on it

The category standard is 34 by 36 inches — built for a person sitting in a chair. A dog that leaks in her sleep moves through the night. Ours run 51 and 59 inches long.

A barrier that survives the washing machine

A barrier that survives the washing machine

Cheap pads use a PU coating that cracks and delaminates after a dozen hot washes. Ours is a TPU laminate. That's the difference between one season and years.

A surface she'll actually sleep on

A surface she'll actually sleep on

Brushed fabric, no crinkle, no plastic sound. If it feels like a hospital sheet she gets up and moves off it, and none of the rest matters.

Sizing

Your dog doesn't aim.

Most washable pads are 34 × 36 inches. BESIDE is built to the shape of the problem — length is what keeps her on it when she moves.

BESIDE manages the mess. It does not treat, cure or reduce incontinence and is not a substitute for veterinary care. If your dog's leaking is new or getting worse, talk to your vet.

What actually changes

What you get back.

Your nights.

Ninety seconds instead of a full bed change, and you're back asleep.

Your laundry.

One layer instead of sheets, protector, duvet cover and blankets. Most weeks that's the difference between daily loads and a couple.

Your mattress.

The thing you're quietly most worried about stops being at risk.

The argument you keep having.

Nobody has to suggest the crate again.

Her spot.

She stays where she's slept for years, which is the entire point of all of this.

What you get back.
30Nights

Use it for thirty nights. Wash it fifteen times.

If it delaminates, leaks through, or stops feeling like something you'd put on your bed — email us and we refund you in full.

Thirty nights is long enough to put it through a month of real use and a dozen wash cycles. If it doesn't hold up in that time, it was never going to.

The 3am job is genuinely ninety seconds now

I did not believe the two-layer thing was anything more than an upsell until the first night it happened. Peeled the top one off, dropped it in the basket, got back into bed. That was it. Previously that was fifteen minutes with the lamp on and a fitted sheet I was fighting at the corner.

Went straight for the XL and glad I did

Otto is a big dog and he moves a lot in his sleep. The standard pads we had been buying were about the size of a placemat by comparison. He stays on this one, which is the entire problem solved. It is also the first one that has not slid off the side of the bed.

Works well, takes up more cupboard space than I expected

No complaints about how it performs — it does what it says and it does not crinkle, which was my main worry after the disposables. Only note is that three layers folded is bulkier than I pictured, so plan where they are going to live.

She is back on the bed

We had moved her onto a bed on the floor in the hallway and she hated it. She would try to get back up in the night and could not manage it. This let us put her back where she has slept for eleven years.

Good product, but check your machine size first

The pad itself is well made and the surface is much nicer than anything else we have tried. My issue is practical — my washing machine is small and two Large layers together is a real squeeze, so I end up doing them separately.

No plastic sound at all

This was my only real requirement. Every washable pad I bought before this one made a noise when he shifted and he would just get off it and lie on the duvet instead. He sleeps on this one all night.

Still going after a lot of washes

We are maybe twenty five washes in and there is no sign of the backing lifting or going stiff. I have had two other pads delaminate on me inside a couple of months so I was watching for it.

Not enough for a really big dog

Gus is 140lb and even the XL does not give the coverage I need. It handles the volume fine, that is not the issue — it is that he simply takes up more bed than the pad does.

Laundry has halved

The thing nobody mentions is how much washing you stop doing. It used to be sheets, protector, duvet cover, sometimes blankets, several times a week. Now it is one layer.

Does the job, wish it came in a darker colour

Performance is exactly as described and the mattress has stayed dry. Purely aesthetic point, but a darker option would sit better with our bedding.

Questions

Before you buy

Why two layers? Can't I just buy one?

You can, and it's $59. But you'd lose the point of it. One layer protects the bed — when it's wet you're still stripping and remaking at 3am. Two layers means the dry bed is already made underneath, so you peel the top one off and go back to sleep. That's ninety seconds instead of fifteen minutes, and it's the whole product.

Will it slide around while she sleeps?

The quilted body has real weight to it, which is most of what holds it — it behaves like a folded blanket, not a sheet of plastic. Lay it on top of your fitted sheet rather than underneath. If she's a heavy mover, Extra Large gives you more margin either side.

How much can it hold?

The absorbent core is built to take a full overnight accident from a medium or large dog without reaching the waterproof barrier.

How do I wash it, and how many washes will it survive?

Cold or warm, tumble dry low, no fabric softener and no bleach. Softener coats the fibres and kills absorbency, which is what quietly ruins most washable pads. Ours uses a TPU laminate rather than a cheap PU coating, which is the difference between surviving hot cycles and cracking after a dozen.

Which size should I get?

Large (33″ × 51″) for a full or queen bed, or if you have a standard apartment washing machine — two Large layers wash together comfortably. Extra Large (35″ × 59″) for a queen or king with a full-size machine. If you're between the two, more coverage is almost always the right call.

Will it stop her leaking?

No. Anyone telling you otherwise is selling you something. This manages the mess so she can stay where she sleeps. It isn't medical, it doesn't treat incontinence, and it's not a reason to skip the vet — if the leaking is new or getting worse, that's a conversation for them.

What about the smell?

The sealed barrier stops urine reaching your mattress, which is where smell actually sets in and stays. Wash the layer within a day or so and use an enzyme detergent occasionally instead of more softener.

Does it work for people too?

Yes — same product, same problem. Plenty of people use it for both. We talk about dogs because dog owners are the ones who told us what was missing.

What if it doesn't work for us?

Email us within thirty nights with your order number and we'll refund you in full. If the product itself failed — leaked, delaminated, arrived damaged — you don't need to send anything back at all.

She's earned the bed.
